Dynadot and Gandi are both long-established registrars with real engineering behind them, and their renewal prices are not comparable. A .com renews at $10.88 at Dynadot and $38.38 at Gandi. A .dev is $12.50 against $39.98. A .org is $11.64 against $39.98, where Dynadot sits slightly below the $12.27 wholesale cost and Gandi sits 226% above it. A .ai is $85.60 against $179.76. Gandi's flat renewal near $40 for most gTLDs means the difference is largest on exactly the ordinary extensions most people register. Gandi's case rests on things the price table cannot show: it has operated since 1999, it is French and offers EU jurisdiction with invoices and support to match, it bundles mailboxes and SSL, and it has a documented policy record that some organisations specifically require. Dynadot's case is that it does the registrar job at a few percent over cost, supports a longer TLD list, has better bulk tooling for portfolios, and discounts first years where Gandi mostly does not. For an EU organisation with procurement requirements, Gandi may be the only acceptable option and the margin is a compliance cost. For everyone else, $27.50 a year per .com is a large premium for a registrar, and at portfolio scale it becomes the dominant line item.
